Angel’s Envy Rye Whiskey Finished in Caribbean Rum Casks

Rye Whiskey Finished in Rum Casks | 50% ABV (100 Proof) | 750 mL

Process & Profile

Angel’s Envy Rye begins with a high-rye mash bill (approximately 95% rye, 5% malted barley) sourced from MGP in Indiana. After aging for approximately six years in new charred American oak barrels, the whiskey is finished for up to 18 months in carefully selected Caribbean rum casks. The result is a bold fusion of spicy rye and mellow sweetness.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Aromas of citrus zest, maple sugar candy, caramel, vanilla, oak, hazelnut, and baking spice

  • Palate: Rich and sweet—notes of rum-soaked fruit, molasses, gingerbread, toasted marshmallow, and light oak spice

  • Body: Medium-bodied with syrupy, dessert-like texture and balancing rye warmth

  • Finish: Long and smooth—sweetness from the rum casks leads into cinnamon, allspice, and a subtle tobacco note

What Makes It Special

  • Among the pioneer American rye whiskies finished in rum casks—introduced 2013

  • Caribbean XO rum-barrel finish imparts pronounced molasses, coconut, and exotic fruit depth

  • Mash bill with high rye content (95%) but completely dominated by the rum finish flavor

  • Dessert‑like profile, offering a unique experience in an approachable 100-proof format

  • Broadly available and consistently produced—supported by long national shelf life

How to Enjoy

Serve neat or with a large ice cube in a Glencairn glass to focus on its sweetness and spice interplay. Taste neat first, then add water or ice to reveal deeper spice and fruit layers. Ideal as a sipping whiskey or dessert pairing.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is the mash bill?
Approximately 95% rye and 5% malted barley.

  2. How long is it finished in rum casks?
Up to 18 months in ex-Caribbean rum barrels.

  3. What proof is it bottled at?
    100 proof, or 50% ABV.

  4. Why doesn’t it say ‘straight rye’?
Angel’s Envy omits “straight” because the whiskey is finished in secondary barrels, which disqualifies it for straight designation.

  5. Is it sweetened or flavored?
While not officially disclosed, many reviewers note a dessert-like sweetness that leads some to believe flavoring or additives may be involved, consistent with the label omission—though not confirmed.
