Ohishi Tokubetsu Reserve Japanese Whisky

Rice Whisky Blend | 40.5% ABV (81 Proof) | 750 mL

Process & Profile

Tokubetsu Reserve, meaning “special,” is a premium Japanese whisky from Ohishi Distillery in Kumamoto. It’s a marriage of rice-based whiskies aged in sherry casks—blended from approximately 36% 7‑year, 35% 10‑year, and 29% 27‑year old whiskies—and bottled at 40.5% ABV. The Spirit features estate-grown rice, stainless-steel pot distillation, and traditional sherry finishing for layered character.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Sherry-rich dark fruits (fig, raisin), honey, vanilla custard, toasted rice

  • Palate: Dried figs, marzipan, almonds, ginger spice, cocoa, light tobacco

  • Finish: Medium, featuring nutty oak, soft spice, toffee, and lingering rice sweetness

What Makes It Special

  • Blend of aged whiskies spanning 7, 10, and 27 years, each bringing unique depth

  • Made from rice whisky, a rarity compared to barley-based spirits

  • Matured exclusively in sherry casks, yielding rich fruit and nutty complexity

  • Crafted by a sixth-generation family distillery, using local estate-grown rice

  • Highly limited—fewer than 1,500 bottles produced worldwide

How to Enjoy

Best enjoyed neat or with a drop of water to coax out hidden layers. Ideal in a tulip glass, it pairs beautifully with dark chocolate, aged cheeses, or as an after-dinner contemplative drink.
